What is Cloud DNS?

Domain name systems are hierarchical databases that store information to turn user-friendly domain names, such as onixnet. These IP addresses function on the internet in the same way a phone number works. It gets users to the right destination on the web.
Why DNS matters?
This page provides an overview of Cloud DNS features and capabilities. DNS is a hierarchical distributed database that lets you store IP addresses and other data, and look them up by name. A public zone is visible to the public internet, while a private zone is visible only from one or more Virtual Private Cloud VPC networks that you specify. Google Cloud offers inbound and outbound DNS forwarding for private zones. The two methods are summarized in the following table. On-premises clients can resolve records in private zones, forwarding zones, and peering zones for which the VPC network has been authorized. Bi-directional forwarding lets VMs in your VPC network resolve records in an on-premises network or in a network hosted by a different cloud provider. This type of forwarding also enables hosts in the on-premises network to resolve records for your Google Cloud resources. The Domain Name System DNS is a hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participating entities. Most prominently, it translates domain names, which can be easily memorized by humans, to the numerical IP addresses needed for the purpose of computer services and devices worldwide. The Internet maintains two principal namespaces, the domain name hierarchy and the Internet Protocol IP address spaces. The Domain Name System maintains the domain name hierarchy and provides translation services between it and the address spaces.
